To Nurture the Child, Strengthen the Family, and Rebuild the Community

Youth Life Learning Centers address the most critical need in urban communities; at-risk children growing up in our inner city neighborhoods. Because of their extraordinary program effectiveness and remarkable financial efficiency, Youth Life Learning Centers (YLLC) represent a best-choice for charitable contributions and volunteerism.
Currently, Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee operates six faith-based after-school programs in inner-city Nashville, one in Memphis, and one in Jacksonville, Florida, together serving over 350 students from 22 elementary schools.
Camp Youth Life 2008
Camp Youth Life 2008 is being held at the McGruder Family Resource Center. The theme of this year’s camp is “My Life, My Purpose.” Each year the YLLCs’ summer camp goal is to learn new things, review academic skills from the previous year, and have a lot of fun. The camp runs from June 3 to June 27.
The highlights:
This year we have had more kids and than ever, most who were enrolled in YLLCs’ 2007-08 after-school program but also quite a few who will be first-time YLLC students this fall. The campers have participated in lots of activities and field trips along with the daily academic component. Guest speakers have included musician, Kevin Singleton, actress, Erica White, Patrick Robinson (aka, Pat the Rock), and more.
One of the new activities this year has been the debates. After watching the movie, The Great Debaters, starring Densel Washington, 5th graders divided up into teams to prepare for their weekly debate. The students chose the topics, which included immigration, John McCain, compensation for professional athletes, and the artist “coolness” of Beyonce vs. Mirah Carey.
